Over the lockdown period, we had to suspend our play, Murder at St Mabel’s, but St Mabel’s girls have a certain determination. Despite being spread around the world, pupils found a way to continue their Drama Club and produce an audio play.

St Mabel’s Camp, written by Mr Todd, is a radio-style drama, in six episodes of around 12 minutes each. The girls are on a Duke of Edinburgh expedition, but disaster follows them and things start to get sinister.

The cast played their parts extremely well, each one sending in audio files for splicing together. Their acting skills are quite remarkable, especially when you consider they are sitting in a room on their own, recording into a phone, without knowing how the rest of the cast are delivering their lines.

Making the play was great fun to do and the final recording shows an excellent coherence. You wouldn’t know the lines were recorded thousands of miles, and often days, apart. Well done to all the cast and thanks to Mr Mckormack in the Drama department, who provided considerable sound editing skills.

The actors were Tara, Jasmine, Leelam, Alexandra, Ewa, Leila, Bella, Sophie, Lily, Scarlett, Becky and Amelia.

All six episodes of St Mabel’s Camp are available to listen to here.
