Changes are under way at one of the region’s leading independent schools. Clifton College has announced that, from September, Butcombe and the Preparatory School will merge to form one school, known as Clifton College Preparatory School.

The School will also unveil its new Nursery building which offers pupils the traditional benefits of a leading public school education with modern purpose built facilities.

The aim of the merger is to provide a seamless education from Nursery through to Year 8. Mr John Milne will be Headmaster; Mrs Jo Newman will be Assistant Head with responsibility for Nursery to Year 3.

Mr Milne said: “This is a hugely positive step for the pupils, parents and College as a whole and this new era of sharing and collaboration will allow the Preparatory School to go from strength to strength.

” The Preparatory School is an important part of Clifton College. It enables pupils to have one journey through the school from the age of 3 years until they leave at 18 years old. This seamless transition means pupils remain confident and secure in their surroundings.”

The Preparatory School was opened in 1908 and has developed over the past hundred years to the point where it is now the region’s largest boarding and day preparatory school, catering for around 500 girls and boys aged 3 to 13.

Mr Milne said: “Education at the Preparatory School is built on traditional methods and values, but takes place in first-class modern facilities. In this way, the Preparatory School aims to produce well-mannered, courteous and open-minded children with a good sense of what is right and wrong. “

The new purpose built Nursery facility will offer a stimulating and challenging curriculum, combining traditional methods with programmes of study relevant to the needs of the next century.

Mrs Jo Newman: “As part of one of the country’s leading public schools, Clifton College Nursery is able to provide the highest standards of care.

“We have a long and successful history of educating children and can provide them with a unique environment in which to develop their educational and social skills.

“We believe children who feel confident in themselves, and in their own ability, have a head start. By combining an exciting curriculum with up-to-date facilities, we ensure your child is able to reach their potential and discover the limitless opportunities available to them.”

The new Clifton College Nursery building will have first class facilities, including an age appropriate library.  Mrs Newman said: “Clifton College has a deep commitment to encouraging the life-long habit of reading for pleasure and this begins with the very youngest pupils in our care.

“The dedicated school library is run by a school librarian who specialises in finding the very best books and resources to encourage and spread this passion for reading.

“We aim to engage, delight and educate your child, and create a happy, stimulating environment where they feel encouraged to explore, investigate and learn to communicate their discoveries.”
