The Under 11 girls' hockey team represented Clifton at the National Hockey finals as South West Champions at Clifton College HockeyRepton school.

In the group stages of the tournament, they first played and beat the Royal Grammar School Worcester with a brilliant last minute Sammy Welsh short corner.

Hannah Parry scored the winning goal in the following match against South Lee School from Suffolk.

A hard fought draw against Twford School meant that the girls had to beat high scoring Witham Hall from Linconshire to qualify as group winners.

After a tense but very well played match the game ended with Clifton running out as 1 – 0 winners thanks to an excellent Corabella Hill reverse stick strike. In a thrilling quarter final against Dumpton school, the girls did everything right but just couldn’t get the goal they deserved even hitting the post twice.

It was to be decided by penalty flicks and despite brave efforts from the team’s goal scorers Hill, Parry and Welsh, Dumpton emerged as shoot out winners.

This put Clifton into a 5th/6th place play-off against Forres Sandle Manor, which again finished 0 – 0, this time the same flick takers stepped up and after a fine Lotte Brown save it was down to Sammy Welsh to put the ball on the spot and coolly flick the ball into the bottom corner of the goal.

With huge cheers from the travelling supporters and big smiles on the girls faces Clifton finished as the fifth best team in the country. Perhaps on another day with a little more luck we may have finished a little higher, never the less after playing 6 matches in which the team scored three and conceded none, we thoroughly deserved our top five title.

Well done and a big thank you to all the girls from Mr Martin and Mrs Hardy for all their hard work on the pitch and also for their impeccable behaviour off it. The squad that is sure to play in the Nationals in the future and also remains unbeaten in normal time so far this season is:
