Eighteen sixth form pupils at Clifton College in Bristol have been offered places at the UK’s two leading universities, Oxford and Cambridge, for entry in October 2015.
Head Master Mark Moore said ‘Clifton is increasingly an academically successful school; at the same time the standards of the pupils’ achievements in music, art, drama and sport and a whole host of other activities, are at their highest levels too.’
The 2015 offers are the highest since 2011. The 18 pupils reflect the school’s ratio of boys and girls, and are across a wide range of subjects, in Sciences, Arts, Languages and Humanities and across a range of colleges, 14 at Oxford and 4 at Cambridge. The 14 Oxford offers included two organ scholarships. ‘It’s highly unusual for one school to win two organ scholarships in the same year’ adds Mr Moore.
In addition, a sixth form pupil has also been offered a place at the prestigious Royal Academy of Music.
Clifton College are anticipating strong A level results generally this year. Mr Moore continues ‘The AS level results in 2014 were our best ever, by a very significant margin’.
Over half the successful candidates joined the school as Preparatory pupils, and half attend the College with scholarships.
