20150302 Climate Change Week at LJS 003From 7th-13th March, Oundle School and Laxton Junior School (LJS) will once again run their own version of Climate Week – hoping to inspire a new wave of action to create a sustainable future.

Geography teacher and event organiser, Philip Pitcher commented, “This year the focus will build on the foundations laid in 2015. A variety of events will make us think more and more about what we as schools can do to lower our carbon footprints. Alongside this a whole host of opportunities to look at the real life impacts of a changing climate will help raise pupil awareness of this global issue. I am delighted that Mike Berners-Lee and Sir Ghillean Prance are visiting, and will complement the whole array of other events and activities.”

The high points of the week revolve around the visits of Mike Berners-Lee and Sir Ghillean Prance, former Director of the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew. Mike will be delivering the annual Sir Peter Scott Memorial Lecture entitled How can Oundle help create a low carbon world? at 7.45pm on Wednesday 9th March in the School’s Great Hall – admission is free and open to the public. As well as running seminars and workshops with the pupils, Mike will be running one with neighbouring Transition groups and community trusts including Peterborough, Stamford and Kingscliffe. Sir Ghillean Prance will then be talking on the evidence and ethics of climate change at 7.45pm on Thursday 10th March.

There will be a series of workshops and assemblies at LJS; and at Oundle School, pupils across all year groups will study various aspects of climate in the Biology, Chemistry and Physics; Geography, PSHE, Drama, the Languages and History. There will be displays
