Cobham Hall Dilara Royal Academy ExhibitionCobham Hall’s Photographic Art student Dilara Sasmaz is celebrating after finding out that she will be one of only 38 art students nationally to have artwork displayed in the Royal Academy’s A-level Summer Exhibition Online.  A-Level and International Baccalaureate Art students from across the UK submitted their work earlier in the year in the hope of being included in the online exhibition, which went live today.

With over 2,000 pieces submitted by more than 1,200 artists, Cobham Hall is thrilled that a piece by one of our IB Art students was selected and will now be among the 38 works chosen and exhibited online.  The piece by Dilara, Year 13, is entitled ‘Tutu’ and was inspired by Horst P. Horst’s Round the Clock.

Dilara, who completed her IB course this year, said “What I liked about Round the Clock is that it reflects more than simply fashion, the aesthetics are aligned with the eternal ideas of beauty.  When I saw the photo in an exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum, I was amazed by the texture of the tutu.” Speaking of her work, Dilara goes on, “What I like about this piece is that it evokes a raw and intimate feeling, and gives a sense of the subject’s humility and strength.”

Her art teacher, Ms Andrea Lockheart was thrilled with the success, saying “This is a great honour.  The competition for the Royal Academy’s A-Level Summer Exhibition is always immense.  We are up against other larger schools across the country.  I am really thrilled for Dilara, a very creative and hardworking student.  It’s always such a pleasure to see the students do so incredibly well.  Thanks must go to the creative team we have teaching here; and the many fabulous opportunities we provide for the girls with amazing art trips and workshops.”

The exhibition can be seen here: https://www.royalacademy.org.uk/exhibition/a-level-exhibition-online-2015. Congratulations, Dilara!
