Cobham Hall Volunteering Food BanksCustomers at West Malling’s branch of Tesco may have seen Cobham Hall students Laura, Luise, Andrea, and Hanna asking for food last week.  The girls had each given up an evening to volunteer for Fareshare, collecting for the local food banks.  Over two three-hour shifts at West Malling Tesco, the girls asked customers if they would be willing to donate tinned food, pasta, tea, and coffee to help those unable to afford food over Christmas.

Luise explained, “At the start I was very nervous talking to people because English is my second language but once I knew what to say and how to say it, I gained more confidence and enjoyed the experience.”

Cobham Hall’s International Baccalaureate CAS Co-ordinator Miss Lambert said of the experience, “It was lovely to see our students engaging with the local community for such a worthwhile cause.  There was a great feeling of accomplishment after we managed to get a trolley full of donations.”

Over the two nights, the girls were able to collect two trolleys full of donated goods!  The store manager at Tesco was pleased with the result too, saying “They have done extremely well as before we started on the Thursday, the trolley was virtually empty and now we have filled it so much we had to start a new one.”

Well done, girls!
