Cobham Hall is congratulating our Year 13 students, who received their International Baccalaureate results.  Early indications suggest the majority of our IB students will be heading to their first choice university.

The array of different courses that our students are heading off to embark upon is testament to Cobham Hall’s ethos of developing the individual.  Courses include medicine, pharmacy, psychology, music, civil engineering, nursing, history, and investment and financial risk management, at universities such as Warwick, UCL, Royal Holloway and Bath.  Students will also be heading abroad to study in Milan and Canada.

The average points score was up this year, and above the 2015 worldwide average. Additionally, 50% of students achieved the highly valued Bilingual Diploma, up from 38% in 2015.  68% of grades were 5, 6 and 7, and 10% of students scored 40 or more points.  The highest score possible for the Diploma is 45, and only 5% of students worldwide achieve a score of 40 points or more.

Headmaster Mr Paul Mitchell commented, “We are delighted with these results.  As an academically non-selective school, it is great to see our point score above the 2015 worldwide average. However what is important to us is that every girl has performed to the best of her abilities and will end up moving on to their chosen university or career.  Of course, we are proud of all of our students, but it is particularly pleasing to see Urvi, an IB Courses student, get her first choice university in Milan to study Fashion and Business Management.  Since she joined in Year 8, Urvi has been assisted by our Student Support Department, and as well as studying the IB, also completed her Gold LAMDA Award and Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at the same time.  Not only are both of these awards valued on her university application, but they have helped Urvi develop into a confident, worldly young lady.”

IB Courses allow students to reap the benefits of the IB Diploma, such as undertaking the three Core elements and gaining points for these, whilst taking fewer subjects.  Although the vast majority of our students take the full Diploma, offering the Courses options provides greater flexibility for Cobham Hall students.

The results demonstrate the rewards of small class sizes, and of providing an all-round education that encourages each individual to develop every facet of themselves as fully as possible.

Well done, girls!  Now enjoy the summer, and we wish you the very best of luck as you leave Cobham Hall and begin the next stage of your education.
