Some 16 teams took part in annual Epsom College Prep Schools’ Athletics Competition in glorious sunshine last Friday afternoon.

Watched by a large crowd of spectators, over 250 boys and girls from Years 5 to 8 competed in both track and field events, including the 200m, 800m, high jump, long jump, discus, shot put and 4 x 100m relay.

As always, the afternoon produced some excellent, competitive athletics in a friendly environment with many of the children achieving personal bests.

In the Years 7 and 8 competition, Eaton House won the boys’ shield and, for the first time, there were joint winners in the girls’ event, with Downsend and Harrodian A sharing the spoils.

In the Years 5 and 6 competition, New Beacon won the boys’ shield with The Study Prep (Wimbledon) winning the girls’ section.

The presentation of awards and trophies was made by the College’s Second Master, Paul Williams.

Following the final races, competitors and their families enjoyed a barbeque where they were able to socialise and meet members of the Epsom College Common Room who officiated at the competition under the direction of Head of Athletics, Andy Wolstenholme, and Director of Sport, Fi Drinkall.

Schools competing this year were Belmont, Bramley, Cumnor House, Downsend, Eaton House The Manor, Edgeborough, Fulham Prep, Harrodian, Hurlingham, New Beacon, Notting Hill Prep, Ravenscourt Park, Rokeby and The Study Prep (Wimbledon).
