Up-and-coming sports all-rounder Joe Tetley is being hailed as a credit to his school after a successful cricket season that saw him winning trophies and competing at county standard despite a broken toe!

The 15-year-old wicket keeper batsman, a student at Mount St Mary’s College, has been notching up accolades all summer after impressive performances with the bat and behind the stumps.

His success this season was recognised by the Sheffield and District junior cricket league who presented Joe with the Ben Jessop junior league award.

For Sheffield United Cricket Club, Joe helped the under 15s to win the Sheffield and District Cup and reach the regional rounds of the national knock out competition. The team beat Guiseley and Darton before losing to York in the regional final.

Joe, from Mosborough in Sheffield, also played for the under 15 Yorkshire B team who finished runners up in the Ampleforth festival losing just one match to Essex.

In the Lord Taveners Yorkshire Junior Cricket Festival, Joe played for Sheffield as wicket keeper and openin batsman for the eventual winners, the under 15s, who beat East Yorkshire, Wetherby, Craven and Doncaster

Year 11 student Joe scored 153 not out against East Yorkshire, 143 against Doncaster, 62 against Wetherby and 35 not out against Craven. He also notched 28 in the semi-final win against Bradford and a quick 13 in the final against Nidderdale.

Joe has also been playing senior cricket for Sheffield United first team which competes in the Yorkshire premier league, and the cricket club’s second team.

A talented sports all-rounder, Joe is also a member of Mount St Mary’s rugby team and plays rugby for Dinnington RUFC.

Paul Scott, director of sport for Mount St Mary’s, in Spinkhill, said: 'Although his Yorkshire season was slightly disrupted by injury, Joe’s subsequent performances have been really impressive, on many occasions playing at a level far beyond his years. He is such a talented sporting all-rounder and a real credit to the school'.
