Alec Stewarts visits Loretto SchoolOne of the UK’s most illustrious cricketers visited an East Lothian school in the week to speak to pupils about his career and put them through their paces in a coaching session.

Alec Stewart OBE, who holds the title of England’s most capped cricket player, visited Loretto School in Edinburgh as part of Clydesdale Bank’s Ambassador Programme – which involves spending time at schools and clubs meeting and coaching young athletes, as well as representing the Bank at business events and seminars.

A regular broadcaster on BBC Radio 5 Live and Sky Sports, he took over the England captaincy from Mike Atherton in 1998 and promptly led the side to its first major series win for 12 years.

Peter Rutherford, Business Development Director at Clydesdale Bank’s Edinburgh Financial Solutions Centre said:

“To be able to take Alec to Loretto, was a once in a lifetime opportunity for some of the school’s up and coming cricketers – providing them with the chance to be coached and train alongside a sportsman as established as Alec.

Loretto School already has a high calibre of cricketers, thanks in part to the hard work of Michael Powell, Loretto’s Head of Cricket and former captain of Warwickshire County Cricket Club.

After the coaching session at Loretto, Alec Stewart hosted a business dinner in Edinburgh on behalf of Clydesdale Bank and accountants Johnston Carmichael.
