Culford pupil Rowley Taylor, 16, who lives near Bury St Edmunds, has been chosen as the winner of the youth category ‘Your View’ in the Take a View Landscape Photographer of the Year awards at a ceremony in London earlier this month.

Although Rowley has had previous interest in photography, what is most remarkable is that he took the winning photograph just a week after getting his camera in July. He said, ‘I only heard about the competition on Twitter five days before the deadline closed and I thought I might as well enter.’

His winning photograph showed a Roe Deer in a field of wheat with a strip of trees as the backdrop. Rowley said ‘This is next to a busy farm road and it shows that the deer are not overly timid towards the life of the farm and the activity it brings to their habitat.’

Wildlife is close to his heart, as Rowley continued, ‘I took these shots on a farm where I have lived for my whole life. I could never get tired of seeing the game birds and other wildlife on the land.’

Rowley also entered a photograph of a pheasant which was commended in the competition. The photographs will be displayed alongside winners of other categories in the Lyttelton Foyer of the National Theatre in London until January 2013.
