Dauntsey’s has announced that its Tall Ship, Jolie Brise will compete in the Tall Ships Races as part of her 2016 summer sailing programme. Racing with the Tall Ships fleet, she will leave Antwerp at the beginning of July, heading south across the Bay of Biscay down the Atlantic coasts of Spain and Portugal to Lisbon. At Lisbon she will take part in the World Famous Parade of Sail out of the River Tagus and race again to Cadiz in Spain where she will take part in all the Tall Ships festivities.

In August, she will spend time ‘Cruising in Company’ with the Tall Ships Fleet, visiting La Coruna, before sailing across the Bay of Biscay and along the South Coast of England to Dartmouth for the Royal Regatta week. She will race again with the Tall Ships from Dartmouth to Portsmouth, followed by a cruise around the Channel Islands and France, ending the summer season in Weymouth for the Water Festival in the first week of September.

Skipper Toby Marris, Dauntsey’s School, said:

“We have a very exciting summer sailing season lined up for Jolie Brise.  Some 50 pupils aged between 15 and 18 will join us for different legs of the programme.  We are in for some exciting and challenging sailing.

“The pupils can look forward to learning a lot about sailing but also about themselves and what they can achieve with a bit of grit and determination when we are out at sea.”

Jolie Brise docked in Teignmouth this week for the first time in 90 years, greeted by a flotilla of local boats.  She has strong links to the Devon town and a new JD Wetherspoon pub has recently been named in her honour there.  The crew, made up of Old Dauntseians and School parents, enjoyed lunch at the pub and Jolie Brise is now heading towards Plymouth before joining many other Pilot Cutters in Fowey Harbour to race to St Mawes in the St Mawes Pilot Cutter World Championships.
