Last weekend, twelve Lower Sixth pupils kept cheerful during their very chilly two days of training based around Dauntseys Duke of Edinburghschool.

They camped overnight on the Manor field and now feel ready and equipped for their practice expedition in two week’s time.

At the same time, nineteen Sixth Form pupils, one on crutches and one with a broken hand, endured very cold conditions on the south coast but did manage to paddle from Swanage to Old Harry’s Rocks on Saturday.

Sunday saw force 7 easterly winds which prevented any paddling but everyone is now feeling confident about their forthcoming practice expedition.

Meanwhile, seventy eight Fourth Form bronze award participants had a full day of training under the expert guidance of A-Z Expeditions covering camp craft, first aid, kit, navigation skills and route planning were all covered as well as a very cold hike.

Well done to everyone for keeping up your spirits despite the freezing conditions.
