Dauntsey's_UgandaA squad of fourteen lower sixth pupils from Dauntsey’s School is busy training for the “Canoeists’ Everest” – the gruelling 125-mile Devizes to Westminster Canoe Race held each Easter.  This year the team is paddling to raise money for the school’s charity Friends of St Michael’s School, Uganda (FSMU).  Training started in January and has required paddlers to battle with gale force winds, hail and floods to ensure they are ready for the challenge.

Allister Sheffield, the Master leading the Dauntsey’s team said:

“The physical effort required to complete the DW course will certainly test the pupils’ commitment and onlookers might ask what drives the crews on. No doubt the fact that they are raising money for this wonderful school in Uganda will help them endure the 20+ hours of discomfort and physical effort required to complete the course.”

The team’s fundraising target is £3,000 and almost £2,000 has already been raised.  If you would like to make a donation or find out more about the crew’s training, please go to: www.dauntseys.org/news/the-canoeists-everest

The DW race starts at Devizes Wharf on Good Friday, from 8am.
