A great win for Dauntsey’s Jolie Brise
Pupils at Dauntsey’s School are celebrating the School’s Tall Ship, Jolie Brise, winning the annual Cowes Small Ships’ Race, one of the highlights of the autumn sailing programme.
Ten pupils from the Lower Sixth and the Fifth Form joined Jolie Brise in the Solent to take part in this popular event with a large diversity of vessels participating. This year, 27 boats competed, under a handicap system devised by Sail Training International, in a truly youth-orientated race in which half of each boat’s crew must be aged between 12 and 25 years.
Jolie Brise was placed first overall on corrected time by ten minutes.
Skipper on the day Adam Seager, Dauntsey’s School, said:
“This is a tough race and although it was cold and wet, spirits were high. The race started just as a cold front came through, making for wet and windy conditions and poor visibility. But the Dauntsey’s crew sailed the boat fantastically and we were thrilled to be in a winning position when we completed the race five hours later.”
