The recent and widely-publicised Ofsted report on school sport highlights the excellent sporting provision at Dauntsey’s School.

Dauntsey’s features as a case study in, ‘Going the extra mile – Excellence in competitive school sport’ which was commissioned after the 2012 Olympics.

Researchers for Ofsted noted that Dauntsey’s has a “distinctive ethos in which sport is part of daily life at school.”  It praised the way the school “fosters team spirit and promotes the right attitudes and behaviours needed to play competitive sports well”.

The report was published last week and explores why so many Team GB athletes were educated in private rather than state schools.

Dauntsey’s features in the Report as a case study entitled, ‘Building character by playing regular, competitive sport’.

Highlights from the case study include:

“…(Dauntsey’s) school provides first-class sports facilities and employs a large team of specialist teachers and coaches. The director of sport oversees the work of the heads of PE at GCSE and A level, a team of expert coaches in rugby, hockey, netball, cricket, athletics, tennis, swimming and riding…The sporting character of students is clearly evident on match days. Students play hard, play to win, and show that they can win and lose graciously.”
