The Cheltenham Ladies’ College U16 seven-a-side football team have joined their U14 counterparts as Cheltenham and District Champions. The tournament, hosted by Christ College, saw the team face tough opposition from Balcarras, Winchcombe and Christ College on their way to claim the title.

Imogen DuthiePlaying Balcarras in the first game, the Cheltenham Ladies' College team started to find their form and won 5–0, with two goals from Imogen Duthie. A harder challenge followed in the next match, with Winchcombe’s goalkeeper dominating their defence to keep both sides drawn at 1-1.

This then led to a crucial match against the hosts, Christ College, always an exciting match after previous years of close encounters. Again this was an exciting, nail-biting game, with pressure and near misses at both ends of the pitch. Jamie Song, the Cheltenham Ladies' College's top scorer, rose to the occasion to find the net to give her team the lead, but Christ College’s pressure from a corner resulted in an own goal and final score of 1-1.

After close competitive games the tournament honours went down to goals scored, to put the Cheltenham Ladies’ College as winners and Christ College closely behind as runners up.

Two weeks previously, the Cheltenham Ladies’ College team had won the U14 Cheltenham and District title at Balcarras School.

Miss Kate Nimmo, Acting Director of Sport, says: ‘Football is becoming really popular here at the Cheltenham Ladies’ College. These girls have a real passion for the game and this is a fantastic achievement for both teams.’
