Excellent GCSE Results at Durham School

Today’s national GCSE news has been dominated by the fall in top GCSE grades awarded this year. Various views have been put forward, from outrage and disappointment in some quarters, to celebration and a cry of “about time too” in others.

Whatever the final prognosis might be, here at Durham School we certainly have been celebrating today as our students achieved some outstanding results.

Just under 50% of grades were A* or A, up from 44% in 2011. Given the national headlines this is tremendous news. 12 students collectively gained over 90 A* and 40 A grades. Ancient Greek is back on the scoreboard, with Callum Bain achieving an A grade after just two years of study in his own time.

Meanwhile three of our top performers have outshone their fathers, all Old Dunelmians of yesteryear, in achieving 27 A*s and 6 As – well done to Callum Bain, Megan Bell and Max George. But congratulations go to all the students and to the staff for the hard work and commitment over the past two years which has led to this success.

Meanwhile our Year 10 students continue to impress, gaining over 90% A* and A grades in Maths and excellent unit scores in many subjects including Classics, Geography and History. Special mention must go to Edward Arthur (Year 9) who gained his A* in French, Lorenz Kurocik (Year 9) gaining A* in German and the three students gaining A* on Chinese.

The school is delighted and proud to report these super results
