Boys from Edge Grove Prep School in Aldenham, Hertfordshire, have topped off a stunning football season by being crowned national IAPS Football Sixes Cup champions with a 5-2 victory against Cumnor House, a prep school from Croydon, recently.

The pupils played 7 matches and won 7, thus avenging their narrow defeat in the finals of 2005.

They were captained by Stefan-Marc Seymour, well organised across the back by Raphael Babaoye, Harry Webster and Ben Xeureb (in goal) and ably supported by Alex Sankey and Murray Slater who offered the team strength in depth.

“Odysseus Alfa and Samuel Shashoua are one of the strongest attacking partnerships in prep school football this year,” says coach, Matt King.

Wins against St Olave’s (4-1), St Bede’s (3-0), Rokeby (2-0), Parkside (2-0) and Yateley Manor (2-0) in the group stages saw Edge Grove up against Foremarke Hall in the semi finals. A 4-3 score line made for an interesting last two minutes of that match, but a breathtaking first three minutes in the final against Cumnor House saw faith restored and the game sealed beyond doubt, as Edge Grove sailed to a 5-2 victory.
