Two bright pupils from Ellesmere College have been accepted onto courses at Oxford and Cambridge Ellesmere OxbridgeUniversities.

Sixth form pupils Rebecca Orr and John Paul have received offers from the prestigious universities to start their degrees in September.

Rebecca (17) who came to the Sixth Form from the Lakelands School has been offered a place to read History at Cambridge University. John (17) has been given an offer from Oxford University to read Music.

Both pupils have noted an increase in their academic performances at a higher level, Rebecca, who is studying the International Baccalaureate, has already been recognised by prestigious universities.

She was an influential part of Model United Nations Schools Conference at The Hague, where passionate debaters compete alongside top institutions from around the world. She also took part in a national debate, organised by the Historical Association, on the topic of ‘Why History matters to you’ at Merton College, Oxford.

Rebecca Said "The International Baccalaureate was the best option for me; I was looking for a broader programme of study that is very well respected by universities.

Once I started attending UCAS events and University presentations I knew that I had made the right decision and I am really looking forward to studying at Cambridge University"

John has an incredible range of music qualifications that enable him to play the Cello, Piano and Guitar to an exceptionally high standard.

He joined Ellesmere at the age of 10 in the Lower School, where he soon decided that his goal in life was to become a composer, drawing inspiration from celebrated composers such as Dmitry Shostakovich and Edward Elgar.

He was very keen to study Music at Oxford University and said , "When I went down to meet Dr Roger Allen at the University I was so impressed with him and the course and I knew that Oxford would be my first choice University”.
