The College's thriving Medical Society, which is run and managed by the students, had the opportunity this Epsom College medical Societyweek to practice their dissection skills.

Members of the Society impressed Biology teacher, Dr Rebecca Dowdeswell, with their enthusiasm and skill in dissecting a sheep's brain.

The brainchild of U6th former Anna Halstead, the Society, which meets every Tuesday afternoon, is chaired by L6th former Fergus Wood and is open to anyone considering a medical, dentistry or veterinary career or with a general interest in all things medical.

The Society regularly invites guest speakers to talk on a range of topics. To date these have covered radiography, carrying out hip replacements, applying to medical schools, and managing a busy Hong Kong hospital. Students also debate ethical issues, discuss current news items or scientific journal articles.

The members of the Society support each other when it comes to deciding where to apply, writing personal statements, going for interview and getting help with arranging work experience.

In March, Society members will be attending the OE Medical Dinner at the Royal College of Surgeons, which includes a tour of the Hunterian Museum, and will hear a talk later this term by recent OE Jen Waterman on life as a 1st/2nd year medical student.
