Old Epsomians Eboni Beckford-Chambers and George Lowe are in the sporting headlines again after making Epsom College netballfurther appearances for national teams in their respective sports.

Eboni, who left the College in 2006, played a starring role this month in the England Women's Netball team that beat world No 1 and reigning World Champions, Australia, in a test series for the first time.

England opened their campaign on 20th January with a battling 58-53 win at the University of Bath before wrapping the series up on 23rd January with a narrow 51-49 victory at Wembley Arena where Eboni was named Player of the Match.

The icing on the cake for the 24 year old goalkeeper came on 26th January – coincidentally Australia Day – at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham when she was named Player of the Series after England completed a 3-0 whitewash with a 58-51 win.

After leaving Epsom, Eboni attended Bristol University where she combined her time studying for a degree in
Law with being a member of Team Bath in the Netball Superleague. She is now contracted to ANZ Championship club West Coast Fever in Perth.

Meanwhile George Lowe, who has been a professional rugby player with Aviva Premiership club Harlequins Epsom College former rugby George lowesince leaving Epsom in 2008, made his debut for the England Saxons last Friday against the Irish Wolfhounds in Galway. The centre came off the bench in the 68th minute to replace club mate Jordan Turner-Hall and helped England overturn a 10-0 half time deficit to win the match 14-10.

Last year, George was selected in the 42-man full England squad that toured South Africa, scoring a try on his debut against the Southern Barbarians. Unfortunately his tour was cut short when he sustained an ankle injury in the same match.

Now restored to full fitness, George will be hoping for a starting place in the Saxons' next match on 1st February against Scotland A at the Kingston Park Stadium, home of the Newcastle Falcons.
