Farlington School Major PackerSenior students listened to an inspirational guest speaker at their assembly on Friday 18th November. Major Phil Packer MBE was an army Major who was injured in Iraq and told he wouldn’t walk again. Within the year, he walked the marathon which took him 2 weeks! He has raised over £1 million for Help The Heroes and went on to climb the Three Peaks for Sport Relief, row the channel, climb El Capitan and do the marathon again. He has recently set up a charity called British Inspiration Trust (BRIT) which aims to build a centre near Goodwood to offer residential courses to inspire young people who face adversity, to help them gain new skills and support them with employment. For this venture he is inviting young people across Great Britain to join him in a challenge that does not cost anything; which is open to all who want to participate; and is about raising the profile of BRIT. Full details are still to be released but Farlington is looking forward to supporting Phil in this new enterprise.
