Farringtons School A Fantastic Experience

Since January, a group of Lower Sixth pupils have been helping students from Marjorie McClure with swimming Farringtons Schoollessons. Marjorie McClure is an all age specialist school for pupils whose primary need is physical disability and/or medical need.

Two Farringtons pupils went to Marjorie McClure to work in the special sensory unit and Ben Giles, Daniel Chen, Lawrence Li and I stayed at Farringtons to help the more able children.

The children often have difficulty interacting and so providing safe play in the swimming pool helped them socialise as a group and their confidence with Farringtons pupils really grew over the weeks.

I specifically enjoyed the sessions, as over the last three weeks I was given the opportunity to work with Taylor, aged 8, who lives next door to me.

Taylor isn’t really able to swim, so I spent time helping him float in the pool and we all had great fun playing together. In the final week, we ran a swimming gala and some Farringtons Year 6 pupils joined in too. The children competed in games using floats, balls and speed stacks.

The whole experience has been great for all of us and it’s something I will remember for a long time. I would like to thank Mr Doyle and Marjorie McClure for giving us the opportunity to help out.
