Felsted Prep School pupils are through to the National Final of the Land Rover 4×4 in schools technology challenge after impressing judges with their radio-controlled car.

The team’s challenge was to design and build a radio-controlled four-wheel drive vehicle that had to navigate and complete obstacles on an off-road test track.

Team Boulderdash, made up of six Felsted engineers in Year 8, won the Team Showroom Award and the Best Engineered Car Award, qualifying them for the National Finals held in March. Each team member had a different role, showing skills in coding, engineering and programming their model as well as media managing their project to try and secure sponsors.

Mr William Harding, Head of Design, Technology and Engineering, commented: “The competition has allowed us to present pupils with opportunities to develop their creative thinking and project management skills. The ability to anticipate and identify real world problems is vital in the 21st century world we now live in and we actively encourage our pupils to think critically about problems and collaborate with others to bring ideas to life.”
