A record 11 Felsted School pupils have been selected to train with England Hockey Performance Centres at U15 and U17 level, where they are able to further their development in a high performance environment, mixing with other top level players selected from the region.

Following this regional recognition, Year 12 Walter, who also plays for Bury St Edmunds U17s, and brothers Kit and Guy, who also play for Northwood U17s, were selected to attend NAGs (National Age Group) trials over the half term break.

After a week of trials at Old Loughtonians Hockey Club, Guy M-J, aged 15 from Great Waltham, has been further selected to attend Phase 2 trials, which means he is in the final 32 players nationally for his age group. He will be aiming to follow in the footsteps of current Felsted Year 11 pupil Jess, aged 15 from Felsted village, who has been retained in the England age group set-up and is currently thriving on the England Hockey player pathway.

Mr Nick Phillips, Director of boys’ hockey, commented: “This is a really exciting time for Felsted hockey and the success is a testament to the skill and dedication of the players, as well as the coaching staff across the Prep and Senior schools. A huge amount of credit should also go to the Felsted’s Hockey Professional, Jo Westwood (Wales International), for the extra hours she has spent with each of these students helping them develop and hone their skills.”

The school has an enviable reputation for girls’ and boys’ hockey, locally, nationally and internationally, with a number of teams reaching the national finals of schools competitions in recent years. Scholarships are available from age 11 for those showing commitment and excellence in Felsted’s core sports including cricket, hockey, netball, rugby and tennis.

Felsted is also one of our Leaders in Sport, and you can read about their excellent sports provision here.
