This special recital was organised by the national youth arts charity, Music for Youth, who described the group’s performances as “stylistic and elegant”. Felsted String Quartet reached the national finals of the Music for Youth Festival, alongside the Felsted Year 8 Steel Band earlier this year.

The quartet is made up of Felsted Music Scholars Charles Campbell-Peek, Sana Abu-Jabir and Matthew Best (Yr 9) and former Felstedian Aimee Schilder, all of whom have represented the School at County and National levels. Charles, a full boarder from Uppingham, is part of the National Children’s Orchestra and the London Symphony Orchestra string Scheme, whilst Sana, a day girl from Hertfordshire,  is a first study percussionist at Junior Guildhall, with which Felsted holds a unique partnership.

Felsted Music Teacher, Mr Owen Rees comments; “The Felsted String Quartet play with real maturity for a group of such a young age. They are developing a real understanding for each other and the repertoire they are performing.”

Music is a strong discipline at Felsted, with many students performing at a regional and national level. Scholarships are available to students who show talent in music from Year 7 entry. This includes a unique Junior Guildhall Scholarship which allows pupils to study once a week at the world-famous Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
