Foremarke Hall Ceramic PoppiesThe children in the Pre-Prep at Foremarke Hall, Repton Preparatory School, had a very special day this week when representatives from Paul Cummins Ceramics Ltd visited them for a poppy making workshop.

Paul Cummins is the inspirational artist, whose vision has become a reality in our capital City. The installation entitled “Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red” at the Tower of London has captured the hearts of the nation and the world. Each of the 888,246 ceramic poppies represent a British or colonial person who died during the course of World War One. Through Paul Cummins, Art Graduates from Derby University have come together to create this vast number of poppies to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of World War One through this amazing spectacle.

Dan Vowles, Nicki Dennett and Stephanie Spain talked to the children about the significance of the ceramic poppies and what they represent. After the demonstration the children had a once in a life time opportunity to make their own ceramic poppy in exactly the same manner as those in the current display. As the numbers are still being added to some of the Foremarke poppies made may actually make it to the Tower of London display.
