A former Bruton School for Girls pupil has appeared on Channel 4’s new Sunday evening programme as part of a record-breaking attempt.

Pip Jefferis featured on the first episode of ‘The Biggest Little Railway’ as part of a team of 56 engineers and model train enthusiasts attempting to build the longest model railway in the world, covering 71 miles across the Scottish Highlands.

Pip joined Bruton School in 1999 and progressed to study Civil Engineering at the University of Birmingham. She is now an engineer for an international development company and works on rehabilitating the water supply to Freetown, Sierra Leone.

She acknowledged the role that Bruton had played in her career and stated that it was “definitely the encouragement from teachers at BSG that helped me into engineering”.

As a STEM Ambassador passionate about diversity in engineering, Pip undertook the project to raise interest in science, technology and mathematics and admitted that despite the “mad nature of the task”, it was beneficial in stimulating discussion and awareness of shortage areas.

‘The Biggest Little Railway’ can be seen on Sunday evenings at 8pm on Channel 4.
