John Dawe - leftFormer Plymouth College student, John Dawe, 23, has been selected for the GB team in the World University Rugby Sevens Championships. John is reading Biomedical Science at Cardiff Metropolitan University and plays for the University in the Welsh Championship League.  The team is in the top tier of the University (BUCS) League.

John was vice-captain of the 1st XV at Plymouth College. He was in the team that made the quarter finals of the Daily Mail Cup and won Rugby World’s Team of the Month after defeating Exeter College, Kirkham Grammar and Bryanston in the same month.  He was also in the Sevens side that played in the game of the tournament at Rosslyn Park 2011 when Plymouth College lost 10 – 5 in the last minute of the third period of sudden death overtime.

“I’m over the moon about the selection for GB student 7s,” said John.  “To represent my county is such an honour.  I loved playing rugby at school.  Everything I learned, from skills to team work, has helped to make me the player I am today.”

The World Championships is taking place in early July at Swansea University. Teams competing include Japan, Australia, Argentina, Namibia, France and Italy.
