GCSE RESULTS COMPLETE AN OUTSTANDING YEAR FOR SIDCOT

STUDENTS at Sidcot School in Winscombe achieved outstanding results in GCSEs with 92.5 per cent of students gaining a minimum of 5 A* to C grades.
90.7% of grades were A* to C compared to a national average of 69.4%.

Forty three per cent of grades awarded at the independent day and boarding school were A* and A grades in comparison with the national average of 22.4 per cent.

Sidcot School’s new Headmaster Iain Kilpatrick said: “I am delighted with our GCSE results. Our excellent results across the board this year support our belief that the best learning environment is demanding without being pressurised.

GCSE results day at Sidcot“We already had one of the best regional performances in A Level results with a 100 per cent pass rate and double the national average for A* and A’s. This comes on the back of our 100% pass rate from IB results published in July.

“In fact, 44 per cent of our students this year are going to the Russell Group of universities including Oxford, University College London and the London School of Economics.”
“Congratulations to all our pupils for their outstanding performance. A special mention must go to Molly Scull who gained 9 A* and 2 A’s, Matilda Bungard who gained 8 A* and 3 A’s and Nicholas Gampierakis who got 7 A* and 5 A’s.”
Student Alice Buck, 16, of West Huntspill, was delighted with 11 GCSEs which included four A*, five A’s and two B’s.
She said: “I am really, really happy. I’m going to take the International Baccalaureate here then study Psychology at university.”

Emily Coombes, of Winscombe, is just 15 and has taken some subjects a year early, gaining an A* in Religious Studies and three A’s in Biology, Chemistry and Physics modules.
Joshua Moody, 16, of Weston-super-Mare, attained 11 GCSE’s including four A’s and four B’s.
He said: “I’m going to study A Levels in Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology -it’s been a great day.”
His friend Jac (correct) Freeman, 16, of Worle, was just as pleased with 11 passes including 1 A*, five A’s and five B’s.

Sidcot is one of only nine Quaker schools in the UK with more than 500 local, regional, national and international pupils aged three to eighteen.
It offers sixth formers the opportunity of studying the International Baccalaureate as well as A-levels.

Sixth formers achieved outstanding results in A Level and International Baccalaureate (IB) examinations with 100% pass rates in August 2012.

Fifty per cent of A Level grades awarded were A* and A, with 26% of students scoring straight A* and A grades while 89% achieved A to C.
All International Baccalaureate students were awarded their Diploma with 60% also achieving Bilingual Diplomas.
Quakers are a philanthropic religious group who aim to put their faith into action every day. They were established during the turbulent period of the English Civil War 350 years ago and Sidcot opened in 1699.
