ghyll scrambling2One of the 35 sports offered at Sedbergh is ghyll* scrambling. What on earth is that, you may ask? Well, if you imagine outdoor rock climbing (up or down) but with water you will have the general idea. It can involve climbing up waterfalls and jumping or sliding into pools … but it always involves getting very wet! I think the attached photos show how much fun it is. For me, one of the great Sedberghian qualities is that our girls are not ‘princesses’. They are equally happy to get wet, muddy or dirty as they are dressing up for a formal dinner. This wide range of experiences helps develop resilience, flexibility, self-confidence and strength of character – all excellent qualities that enable them to adapt easily to many different situations.

*Ghyll is a Viking word for a stream or small river cut into a hillside, usually with steep sides.
