Luckley Oakfield School Maths WinnersLuckley girls have excelled again in this year’s UKMT Mathematical Challenge competition. At the Senior Level, we achieved 1 Gold award (Deborah Lee), 3 Silver and 9 Bronze awards.

Years 9 to 11 competed in the Intermediate level, taking on the challenge to solve 25 mathematical problems on topics ranging from sequences to geometry in an hour. With calculators forbidden, the girls needed to call upon all of their powers of reasoning as many of the questions are intended to stretch students beyond the National Curriculum. From over 200,000 entries, the top achievers nationally receive a certificate, and 5500 students qualify to enter the European Kangaroo competition. In addition, the very highest 500 in each year are invited to participate in the Intermediate Mathematical Olympiad competition. We were delighted that two of our girls (Laura Thomson and Ellen Roberts) qualified for the Mathematical Olympiad and two (Eun Jung Cho and Mi Joo Choi) qualified for the European Kangaroo. Overall, Luckley achieved 6 Gold, 13 Silver and 18 Bronze certificates.

Gold Certificates were awarded to
Eun Jung Cho (10)
Mi Joo Choi (10)
Elsie Leung (11)
Ellen Roberts (9)
Laura Thomson (9)
Yui Wa Wong (11)

Students from Year 7 and 8 will get their chance to shine in the Junior Mathematical Challenge, to be held on Friday 6th May.
