prize giving Shebbear DartmoorShebbear College was blessed with fantastic weather for their Speech Day on Friday 5th July. This was the inaugural Speech Day for new Headmaster Simon Weale who spoke about the many and varied pupil achievements over the last academic year and gave credit to his predecessor Bob Barnes. Guest speaker for the day was Carleen Keleman OBE and the Chairman was James Hancock, President of the Old Shebbearians’ Association.

Following the speeches, prizes and trophies were awarded to pupils for outstanding achievements. Every student who contributed on the day did themselves proud. Georgia Stevens and Tilly Cage gave a superb performance of ‘St. Louis Blues’ and a group of pupils entertained the packed audience with their sketch on phobias. You can see both performances on the school’s YouTube channel by following the link on the homepage.

Two singing ensembles – the cast of the recent Junior School production ‘Olivia’ and the Senior Choir also gave excellent performances before new Head Girl and Head Boy, Ellen Chamberlain and Julius Gemmel, spoke with the assuredness that one might hope to expect from Head Prefects. One of the most moving moments was a splendid speech, including farewells, made by three Upper Sixth students; Amy Thompson, Matthew Prowse and Rose Frith. All photos taken on Speech Day are available to see on the school website.
