Claire Lomas gave an inspirational talk to the whole school about the journey she has faced since her freak Go Dolphin lecture accident while competing at Osberton Horse Trials in May 2007.

Claire spoke movingly about the changes she had made to her life since becoming paralysed from the chest downwards.

She talked about the down times but also about the ups she has experienced, marrying her husband Tim and the birth of her daughter Maisie along with the determination to do something with her life.

In 2012 Claire was the first paraplegic to walk a Marathon in a robotic suit. It took 17 days for Claire to complete the London Marathon, and most of it was in the rain.

Claire’s effort raised £210,000 for Spinal Research, and huge awareness of spinal injuries. We were honoured to welcome her and are excited to be supporting her with her fundraising for her next venture.

Claire is going to cycle 400 miles of England starting on April 22nd 2013, to raise vital funds for the Nicholls Foundation and Spinal Research. If you would like to get involved you can make a donation online at www.justgiving.com/Claire-Lomas.

Claire’s message to the girls was clear, “Sometimes life throws something at you that you may not be expecting, it doesn’t necessarily have to be of a huge magnitude but the way you face it is the important thing.”
