Last Thursday evening, 35 Year 8 pupils set off to Normandy for a combined French and history trip. The ferry Hampshire Collegiatecrossing was rather bumpy but fun, with one or two people feeling a little poorly!

The first day was long but exciting. We started with breakfast in a hotel in Caen and then headed off to Falaise to visit the castle where William the Conqueror was born.

Back in the town, we did a town trail. From there, we headed for the supermarket where we had fun buying our own lunch, which we had in a park back in Falaise.

Later that afternoon, we ended up at Pointe du Hoc, a place where you can still see the huge craters created by bombs from D-Day.

On the second day, we saw the Bayeux cemetery and enjoyed visiting the market, where we were able to buy lots of funny things, including coloured hats, big sunglasses.

We were able to remember all those who had died in the Battle for Normandy when we went to the British cemetery in Bayeux and the American cemetery at Colleville-sur-mer.

On our last day, we went to the 360? museum in Arromanches; this was very powerful and brought together everything that we had seen on our trip. Before heading back to the coach, most of the group had a ride on the merry-go-round near the beach, from where we could see the Mulberry harbour.
