Prior's_Field_Open_Day_ww1Sandbags were stacked at the entrance to Prior’s Field’s History Department on Saturday 1 February, as prospective parents and pupils were carried back in time by a display of World War I and II memorabilia, lent to the school by a current parent.

Exhibits included trench armour, spiked helmets, field binoculars from 1917, a 1948 Russian Maxim heavy machine gun and a 1914 Triumph TT Roadster motorbike – a similar model to the ‘Trusty Triumphs’ used for dispatch rider work during the Great War.

Throughout the school, visitors were encouraged to get involved in a variety of activities: experiments in the Science Department, witnessing the construction of a giant rocking chair in Design Technology and bread making in Food Technology. Outside,  pupils offered a car washing service with proceeds going to Cancer Research.

Originality and passion have been encouraged at Prior’s Field since its foundation by the mother of Aldous Huxley in 1902. The school offers over 20 subjects at A-Level and pupils participate in 50 termly clubs, including silver smithing, philosophy, riding and Greenpower engineering.

The next Open Event is on Friday 2 May, 10.30am-12.30pm. Individual tours can be arranged on any day by calling the Admissions Manager on 01483 813402.
