Harrogate Ladies College BBC School Choir of the YearHarrogate Ladies’ College Chapel Choir has recently been selected as a semi-finalist in the prestigious BBC Songs of Praise School Choir of the Year competition for 2015.

The competition aims to find the best Junior and Senior School Choirs across the UK and has attracted participation from more than 45,000 children since it was launched in 2003.

Kate Morgan, Director of Music at Harrogate Ladies’ College said, “Being selected as a semi-finalist in this competition is a real honour and the girls in the Chapel Choir are absolutely delighted.  It takes an awful lot of hard work, commitment and sheer determination to reach the standard they have and it’s very rewarding to see that recognised.  HLC has a long-standing choral tradition but we have never got this far in the competition before.”

Sylvia Brett, Principal of Harrogate Ladies’ College added, “We’re incredibly proud of our Chapel Choir.  Under Kate’s direction they have already achieved so much and we’re looking forward to sharing their beautiful singing with the rest of the UK!”

The semi-final will be broadcast on BBC1 in a Songs of Praise School Choir of the Year special programme on Sunday 3 May.
