Harrogate Ladies’ College welcomed a host of inspirational speakers for an International Women’s Day event last week.

The event celebrated the day along with the 125th anniversary of the school and was attended by men and women, who gave talks to pupils about their experiences and the challenges they faced in their professions.

Double amputee, BBC Journalist and blogger, Kat Hawkins gave a keynote speech and Joanne Harris, author of bestselling novel and Oscar nominated film, ‘Chocolat’, gave a presentation to end the day

Over 30 speakers took part in the event, including the Bishop of Ripon, healthcare workers, financial executives and legal staff.

Sylvia Brett, principal of Harrogate Ladies’ College, said: “We’ve been educating inspirational women at Harrogate Ladies’ College for 125 years.  The aim of this event was to inspire the next generation of women.  We wanted to challenge their thoughts and perceptions, to encourage them to think ‘outside the box’ and to help them realise that anything is possible with hard work, determination and perseverance.

“I’m incredibly grateful to all the amazing speakers who joined us and made our Inspirational Women’s Day a huge success.  As we celebrate our 125th anniversary, I’m proud that we’re continuing to lead the way in girls’ education.”
