The inaugural Hazlegrove 12k Charity Run took place recently with an impressive group of 49 runners taking part together with an additional 66 children, parents and grandparents taking part in the 2k Fun Run. It was a real family affair with a wonderful atmosphere and great camaraderie as the many supporters cheered all the runners as they set off and as they all, eventually, arrived back.

Hazelgrove children at the Charity Fun runOrganising such an event was inspired by PE staff member Matthew Bartlett who himself ran 58 miles in the London to Brighton race earlier this year in aid of the charity, the Julian Starmer-Smith Lymphoma Fund – a fund close to his heart as Julian, Mr Bartett’s cousin, died from T-Cell Lymphoma aged 19.

This run followed on from a dinner at Hazlegrove during the Rugby World Cup when the commentator Nigel Starmer-Smith, Julian’s father, spoke about England rugby and regaled the assembled company with anecdotes from his own rugby career.

The two events have raised a combined total of over £2,400 – a tremendous contribution.
Sincere thanks go to the generous sponsors who helped to enable these events to take place. These included Shelleys the printers, Light Green, Symonds Forecourts Ltd, Robin James Salon Spa Shop, Brue Farm Day Nursery, Eden Private Staff, 3/4 South Square Barristers and Hazlegrove Preparatory School.
