Head of Cricket Appointed Assistant Coach for England Over 40s World Cup
Bishop’s Stortford College Head of Cricket, Dave Hughes, has been appointed Assistant Coach for the England Over 40s Cricket World Cup squad.
Dave, who has been a member of the sports department at Bishop’s Stortford College since 2009 and Head of Cricket since 2019 will join the 16-man squad and coaching team in Cape Town, South Africa from 17 February to 1 March 2024.
Dave takes with him a wealth of skill and experience having captained Bishop’s Stortford and Hoddesdon Cricket Clubs in the Herts Premier League and Home Counties League for over 14 years, played for Hertfordshire County Cricket Club for several years in the Minor Counties Championships, and played for Hampshire and Surrey 2nd XI teams for three seasons. Alongside being Head of Cricket at the College, Dave is also the 1st XI Men’s Coach at Bishop’s Stortford Cricket Club.
The inaugural International Masters Cricket Over 40 World Cup, England has been drawn in Group A and will face Australia, Canada, Namibia, USA and Zimbabwe.
A voluntary, non-profit making organisation, the event supports the continued engagement of cricketers above the age of 40 to play in veteran matches and international tournaments, whilst promoting physical and mental well-being.
Dave commented, “I’m really excited to be joining the England squad and assisting with the coaching. It’s an incredible opportunity to coach at an international level, in a World Cup environment and I’m very much looking forward to it.”
