It was celebration time at Headington School as girls picked up another fantastic set of A Level results. This year 61.7 per cent of all entries were rated at A* or A, and 86.1 per cent were graded at B or higher. Fourteen girls achieved three or more A*s, with three taking home four top grades. Girls collected a total of 222 A* and A grades between them, sitting a total of 360 A Levels.
More than two-thirds of our chemists achieved an A or A* in Chemistry while in Maths, our most popular Sixth Form subject, 73 per cent achieved A/A* and 87 per cent in Further Maths. All those girls taking Law achieved an A or A*, with two-thirds achieving the top grade. It was also another excellent year for our artists, with 85 per cent achieving A or A* in Art A Level.
Today’s results add to this year’s excellent set of IB results published in July, which saw one girl, Davina Chu, achieving a perfect score and an average points score of 39.7 out of 45.
Among the individual success stories are Katie King-Smith, part of our record-breaking Rowing 1st Eight, who will take up a place at Yale after securing A*AB. Head of Boarding Shirley Chiu will take up her place to study Medicine after achieving three A*s and an A. Seven of our sixth formers are now headed to Oxbridge, having secured their offers.
Safiya Patterson, 18, from Headington, is off to Queen’s College, Oxford, to study Philosophy and Spanish after recording three A*s.
She said: “I was really excited and really shocked. I tried my best but I wasn’t expecting what I got.
“I’m really, really pleased, I’m so happy about it. It was my dream to go there, I am really pleased I have managed to get in.”
Head Girl Hannah Anson, 18, from Bladon, is off to Durham University to study English after securing A*AA.
She said: “I felt incredibly emotional when I got the results – I was just a massive relief. I feel like my teachers put an enormous amount of effort in so it’s nice to give back to them and make it worth it for them.
“I am really excited about the next chapter. I feel like Headington has given me the best preparation that I could have and I am ready for the world – but I will always be a Headingtonian.”
Headmistress Mrs Caroline Jordan said: “There has been increased uncertainty over what this year’s results might lo
ok like after significant structural changes to the qualification so, for most, today will be a welcome relief. All our girls should be extremely proud of their results, as we are of all they have achieved.”
