Hethersett Old Hall School OlympicsHethersett Old Hall School pupils are in Olympic mode as the build up to the Games gathers pace across the country.

Boys and girls at the school started their preparations in July last year, exactly one year before the Olympic torch arrives in London.

Hethersett has run a very active campaign to get the torch to pass through the South Norfolk village, in which the school has been included. The upshot was that a real Olympic torch from the 1948 games – the last time the Olympics came to these islands – was proudly carried round the school field on July 4th 2011.

Pupils later appeared in an outside broadcast on local TV that reported on the village’s successful campaign to have the torch visit Hethersett next July. The latest news is that Hethersett Old Hall School has been successfully accepted as a member of London 2012’s UK-wide ‘Get Set’ network. This is the official Olympic 2012 education programme and membership is only granted to schools that demonstrate commitment to Olympic and Paralympic values.

Headmaster Stephen Crump commented: “I am very proud of what we have achieved. As a boarding school, we have an international outlook, welcoming pupils from all over the world. We feel very much in tune with the Olympic ideal of friendship and co-operation between nations.”
