Howz that for top GCSE results

A young cricketer has been hit for six after gaining the highest grade possible in all of his GCSE exams at Mount St Mary’s College.

Gagan Shiralagi, age 16, from Walton, Chesterfield, achieved ten A*s in his exams and will now go on to study for his A-levels at the Mount’s sixth form.

The talented sport star, who is captain of the school’s cricket team and is also part of Chesterfield Cricket Club, studied Biology, Chemistry, English, English Literature, French, History, Mathematics, Physics, Religious Studies and Statistics.

Gagan said: “I am so relieved and over the moon with my results. It is a great feeling to get the grades you have worked so hard for. I am now looking forward to starting life in their sixth form at Mount St Mary’s.”

Over the summer holidays Gagan has been using the break to gain some medical work experience.

Laurence McKell, Headmaster at Mount St Mary’s College, said: “Gagan’s results are absolutely outstanding, I am delighted also that such a nice chap was able to make a clean sweep across the board. He has a very bright future ahead of him and I am sure he will excel in his sixth form studies here at the Mount.”

Overall Mount St Mary’s College achieved an 80 per cent pass rate for A* to C grades, up by seven per cent from 2011.

The pass rate for A* to B grades also increased by two per cent from last year and the results follow the College’s record-breaking A-levels announced last week.

Laurence McKell, Headmaster at Mount St Mary’s College, said: “This time of year is always and anxious one for pupils, parents and staff. We are incredibly proud of all our pupils on another outstanding set of GCSE results. These excellent grades are reward for the tremendous amount of hard work the pupils have put in to prepare for the exams.

“I’d also like to praise our teaching staff for the dedication and commitment demonstrated day in day out at the Mount to ensure all pupils get the best out of school life and reach their potential.”
