Yorkshire born author Phil Earle came to a York school to talk to the pupils about writing and the life of an author.St Peters School York

Originally from Hull, Phil became interested in children's fiction after working in a bookseller's in London. He has written three novels for young adults; Being Billy, Saving Daisy and Heroic.

Phil spent the morning at the senior school of St Peter's, reading excerpts from his books and giving a creative writing workshop.

In the afternoon he went down to St Olave's School and spoke to the younger pupils, reading passages from Being Billy and Heroic.

Phil's latest novel, Heroic, is about two brothers, and how their relationship changes when one returns from fighting in Afghanistan.

Pat Chandler, Librarian at St Peter's School, said: "Phil Earle delivered three highly engaging sessions for us. He struck up an instant rapport with our pupils and took us into the world of a young soldier in Afghanistan as he talked about the creation of his new novel, Heroic.

“In addition, Being Billy provided the spark for a focussed and supportive creative writing workshop."
