President of Emirates at Kent College.

Tim Clark1As the sun shone on Speech Day, the Head Master, Dr David Lamper reported on rising numbers for both day students and boarders along with successes at national level in Music, Drama, Sports, Art and Science. Sir Tim Clark, President of Emirates Airline and former student of Kent College presented the prizes and the Head Master thanked him for his encouragement with Kent College Dubai, which will open at the end of August.

IB results, described by ISI as ‘exceptional compared to world averages’ were again a cause for great celebration with the average points score better than the equivalent of 4 grade As at A level. Eight students achieved a bilingual IB Diploma. Initial analysis indicates that higher level grades within the Diploma were 88% 5’s and above (A*-B equivalent at A level ) with 66% 6’s and above ( A*-A equivalent ).

ibThe results will enable access to top universities in the UK and further afield: Head Boy, Sam Hines scored an almost perfect 43 points and will study History at Christchurch, Oxford; Jules Frank gained 42 points and has been awarded a scholarship at prestigious McGill University in Montreal, reading Economics; Greta Milesi achieved 41 points and will follow a Liberal Studies programme at Durham University; and Allyx Guitard scored 40 points and has won a place to study Law at Exeter College, University of Oxford.

News of two former Kent College IB students reached us this week: Thomas Sayer graduated from Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge with a double first in Natural Sciences and Claudia Sanchez Jimenez not only achieved a first from St Hugh’s College, Oxford, but the highest mark that Oxford has ever awarded for a degree in Archaeology and Anthropology. Not surprisingly, both will continue as PhD students.

Head Master, Dr David Lamper said,

‘I am delighted for the students who have worked hard and done so well in achieving places at top universities, and I am grateful to colleagues for their efforts to make sure that the success already enjoyed by A level students is shared with those studying the IB Diploma.’
