Everyone is invited to view the stunning work of local artist John Hurford at Shebbear College on Monday 6th May at a shebbear College free private viewing from 6.00-8.00pm.

Cheese and wine will be available to all visitors and the paintings in the exhibition will be available to purchase.

John is a self-taught artist, born on a farm in North Devon in 1948. He worked as a farmer all his life, painting in his spare time.

In the late sixties he was one of the leading psychedelic painters, with work appearing in Oz, IT and Gandalf's Garden magazine.

He has also illustrated over 40 children's books and his paintings have been exhibited all over the world, including such prestigious venues as the Whitney Gallery in New York, the Tate Gallery in Liverpool and a permanent collection at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. A book detailing his life and work has also been published.

His influence has always been the flora, fauna and landscape of the North Devon area, particularly the area where he farmed and still lives.

Monday 6th May is also the college Open Day, during which everyone is invited to come and have a look around and see the school ‘in action’. Full details are available at www.shebbearcollege.co.uk
