After a tense few days of deliberation, and many a fierce debate between the judges, UK Boarding Schools are finally proud to announce the winners of the 2014 GCSE Jumping for Joy Competition.
Our judges were initially concerned that the GCSE students couldn’t possibly match the jumping skills of their hair-flipping, contortionist A-Level counterparts, but their concerns disappeared as soon as they saw the GCSE entries. Competition this year was fierce, making it a closely fought race, with mere half points separating those at the top. To decide the winners, our judges had to refer to our strict guidelines…
Jumping for joy selection criteria:
- Height of jump
- Smile whilst jumping
- Holding results paper whilst jumping
- Leg bend
- Arm raised/and or fist pump
- Crazy hair action
- Overall commitment
*A maximum amount of 10 points will be awarded per category with additional points awarded if you are photographed jumping solo and for artistic impression – at the judges discretion
Drum roll please…
Joint Runners Up
The judges had a hard time deciding between our entries, and so have decided to award two runners up- Farlington School and Headington School.
Points were awarded to Farlington for percentage of feet off the floor and creative brandishing of exam results papers. Our judges were especially impressed with the girl in the middle’s crazy ‘beard’ action! A higher average height of jump would have pushed them further up the table.
Headington School put in a valiant effort, with this lovely sunny shot. Headington displayed great variety in their different jumping styles, although points had to be deducted for missing result papers. The judges were particularly impressed with the girl from second right, who achieved an excellent leg bend combined with great hair movement.
Third Place
Our third place prize is awarded to Abbots Bromley for this excellent synchronised jump. Points were awarded for collective jump height and varied poses. The judges were especially impressed with the clear display of exam papers across the board and for commitment to the jump. We don’t want to know how many shots it took to get this one!
Second Place
Despite being a shadowy photo, St Francis’ College has snatched second place due to the incredible level of passion, commitment and energy from the girl on the left hand side. The judges were particularly impressed with her facial expression and her hair, which wins our points for artistic impression. Perhaps if the photo had been better lit then it could have taken the top spot…
First Place
Congratulations to Burgess Hill School for Girls- our overall winners for 2014! They scored points for sheer variety, commitment, effort and number of feet off the ground. It was a difficult decision for the judges when it came to deciding on an individual winner, but in the end the girl in the front, with the black top and striped skirt has to take the crown for fulfilling all of our selection criteria. Well done, girls!
We’ll be in touch with the winners about their prizes.
Thanks to everyone who entered- you certainly didn’t make it an easy decision for our judges. We’ll see you in a year’s time for more limb-flailing fun!
