Junior Kings CantenburyPupils from a school in Canterbury are thrilled with an unbeaten hockey season so far and their place at the national hockey finals on Friday 16th November.

The girls from Junior King’s School won the Regional Under 11s tournament recently, which was held at Bishop’s Stortford College. They gained the title of Regional Champions for the East of England without conceding a goal. At the competition they beat top hockey playing independent schools such as Culford, Chigwell, Gatehouse, Bancroft’s and Felsted.

The Junior King’s team head to Derbyshire on Friday to compete in the national finals against 19 other schools from across the country. They will be playing their best to try to become the IAPS National Hockey Under 11s girls’ hockey champions.

The event is being organised by the Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS), which represents the leading 600 independent prep schools in the UK and worldwide.

Miss Amanda Scott-Kilvert, Head of Girls’ Games at Junior King’s said: “This is a fantastic achievement from a group who combine natural talent and hard work with the ability to play as a team. They epitomise all that we encourage – enjoyment, determination, hard work, teamwork and competitiveness, matched with a sense of fair play and sportsmanship”.

“Their inspiration comes from a desire to be the best for their team and for their school. We are extremely proud and wish them well on Friday,” added Mrs Claire Pattinson, the team’s coach.
